Revisional Breast Surgery and Implant Exchange

A woman’s priorities for the look and feel of her breasts changes throughout her lifetime. Initially, breast implants may achieve the simple goal of increasing cup size or balancing breasts with hips. However the effects of gravity, weight gain and/or loss, pregnancy and age may negatively impact the position, volume and aesthetics of the implanted breast, resulting in dissatisfaction. Secondary operations are usually motivated by the desire for change of size, style of implant, or implant filler (saline to silicone). In the quest for the idealized shape and position, scar capsule modifying (capsulotomy/ capsulectomy) may be necessary. Finally, both internal (capsulorrhaphy) as well as external skin brassiere (mastopexy) tightening procedures may be required to produce the desired result.
