Laser skin resurfacing is one of the newest skin resurfacing treatments available. Laser Skin Resurfacing can help you achieve skin that has a healthier, smoother and more radiant appearance and texture.

This non-invasive technique employs a powerful, precise laser that will successfully remove:

  • Acne scars
  • Discoloration
  • Fine lines
  • Sun and environmental damage
  • Wrinkles
  • Other imperfections

The best candidates are those who are in good general health and do not smoke.

The Procedure

Dr. Chong will pass a fine pinpoint laser beam over the problem areas of your face. As the laser passes over your skin, it will gently vaporize the outermost layers of your skin which will encourage new cell growth, thereby stimulating your skin’s own collagen production. Some patients may require multiple treatments to achieve optimum results.

Recovery

You may experience some temporary discomfort and redness for a day or two, but you should be able to return to your normal activities immediately after your treatment.

To ensure patient safety and produce optimal results, Dr. Chong is certified to perform Laser Skin Rejuvenation. She will be happy to consult with you personally to help you decide if Laser Skin Rejuvenation is the best option to achieve a younger-looking you.

CO2 FAQ

How does my face look right after the treatment?
The treated area will be deep pink that will fade within a week; similar to a bad sunburn.

Is my skin going to peel off?
The laser delivers precise amounts of heat to stimulate collagen production, without causing a full thickness injury to the skin, so you will not experience skin sloughing similar to a burn.

How long before I can go in the sun?
We recommend avoiding sunbathing for at least 4 weeks. Sunscreen should be applied as soon as the top layer has resurfaced or become matte.

How does this compare to a Fraxel?
Although similar patient experience, our CO2 laser is the newest in technology which allows for better results, a less painful experience, and less downtime.

What skin types does this work on?
Fitzpatrick skin types I-IV. Fitzpatrick classification depends on the skin tone & ability to tan or burn. Lighter types (redheads, blondes) are well served. Darker skin types may experience prolonged redness after the treatment.

Does this make your pore sizes smaller?
Pore size is genetically determined and affected by sun damage, (tends to be more prominent). Not many modalities, apart from Genesis, will modify pore size.

Will this affect my permanent makeup?
Possibly. There is a chance that the heat from the laser can affect the color of your permanent makeup. However, where we use the CO2 is usually not in areas near permanent makeup. Every effort will be made to preserve your eyebrows & eyelashes.

What if I have cold sores?
Please disclose any history of cold sores & shingles as you will be “pre-treated” with anti-viral meds.

If I don’t do my whole face, will my skin be different colors or textures?
The current fractionated CO2 laser causes less inflammation so the end result should not be noticeable because of hypopigmentation (whiteness). Warmer skin types may experience slightly longer redness around treated areas, which can be camouflaged with makeup or tinted sunscreen, as soon as the skin has healed

How painful is the CO2?
It depends on individual tolerance; however pretreatment with topical anesthetic cream, option for nerve blocks, use of an active skin cooler, and immediate application of bio cellulose mask, does a lot to make this more comfortable without IV sedation. Pain is not generally a problem, afterward. Control of itching is accomplished by good wound care & anti-histamines.
